We love unpublished writers just as much as we love published writers (sometimes even more so). MMPP is more likely to publish work that is provocative and invigorating rather than overly complicated pieces of pomposity. Excite us with your garden-fresh flash and titillate us with your gutsy poems. Let us home your vigorous words and create art to accompany them. And after we marry your wise wordery, we’ll bring the lit to the great outdoors. Length of the work: our sweet spot is between 150 to 300 words. Anything over or under, we’ll be less psyched on. Poems? Let’s try to keep it under 25 lines, and no more than 3 poems per submission. We accept re-prints so long as you own the rights.
Welcome to the Philly Typewriting Writing Contest!!! Let us spring into some writing and shake off those winter blues by rolling up our sleeves and getting creative.
Philly Typewriting is holding two short story writing contests: one for kids ages 12-17 and a second for adults ages 25+. There will be one winner selected for each contest, and each winner will receive a prize. Winners will need to be able to pick up the prize at Philly Typewriter
A book containing all the submitted work will be compiled following the contest. By submitting, you agree to have your submitted work included in the print collection. Please keep that in mind when submitting. Once the contest ends and the compilation begins, there will be further discussion and details about what that entails.
All who enter will receive a free copy of the print collection as a thank you for being a part of this contest!
Both age brackets share the same rules:
- NO A.I., NO Chatgpt, etc. No plagiarism. No work that isn’t completely original from your own noodle. All work will be thoroughly checked.
- While we are open to a variety of concepts and genres, we do not accept pieces created to further oppress marginalized communities. If you have concerns regarding the subject matter, we are always available to discuss it with you.
- Please ensure the piece reflects the theme: Fear is the Greatest Tool.
- Word count is between 750-1000 words.
- Stories should be written in a readable 12-point font.
- No previously published pieces.
- As we are publishing a compilation of all submitted work, please no simultaneous submissions.
- Stories are submitted through Submittable.com.
- For youth, ages 12-17, submitting, parental help is strongly encouraged.
- One story submission per writer.
- Within the body of the submission, please include your ZIP code, and if you are in the youth bracket, please include your age.
- And most importantly: have fun! We are looking forward to reading your words and seeing the worlds you create.
